“What’s the difference between the right to free speech—which is enshrined in the Constitution—versus the ‘right’ to health care, which is not? Well, back in the day, we would simply say that a right has legal authority—it’s in the Constitution and therefore it’s not just a right, it’s a birthright. So why shouldn’t we amend the Constitution to include the rights to health care, food, housing, education—all the rest? What’s the difference between the rights we have and the ‘rights’ Obama wants to give us? Simply this: Constitutional rights protect us from things: intimidation, illegal search and seizure, self-incrimination, and so on. The revolutionary idea of our Founding Fathers was that people had a God-given right to live as they saw fit. Our constitutional rights protect us from the power of government. But these new so-called ‘rights’ are about the government—who the Founders saw as the enemy—giving us things: food, health care, education... And when we have a right to be given stuff that previously we had to work for, then there is no reason—none—to go and work for them. The goody bag has no bottom, except bankruptcy and ruin.”

(from my friend Marcus Jasso)--My dad and I were just talking about this the other day. The Bill of "Rights" mentioned in the Constitution has seemed to grow over time. I am not going to get all spiritual on you but God said He would provide for all of our needs. The government should never take the place of God. If the govt provides us health, safety, money, a home, and even a comfortable retirement, why do we need God? You can not unemploy God. When you do, He simply reminds you who the owner of "this company" is. I believe that lots of people are mad because they are having to get a job and work or go without more. Unfortunately, that attitude affects those of us who do work and rely on God instead of our government to provide. Our country's condition should be a lesson of what happens to us when we don't vote and let those who don't work and vote on their day off determine who gets elected.
And actually, when you let God take care of your needs and add our inalienable rights on top, America is pretty swell place to live.

(me)--i totally agree with you. this world is spiritually destitute, and the new way to be is self-indulgent and greedy. i can't stand how all of a sudden people are demanding social reforms and help without any sort of will from themselves. we've become a gimme-gimme society of demands and excuses, and it seems like most would rather complain and bemoan their existences than "get spiritual." i've known God all my life, and i will never be unhappy or poor on any level because i know He is always there. plain and simple. yet, there are those who seek to banish Him from our lives, and then they wonder why their world is going to hell in a handbasket. it's amazing how simple the ties are to God, yet how many of those ties have been broken for the sake of rights and equality. no one understands humility or meekness anymore, sacrificing now for the good of a future based in our true Father. my mom lately has been repeating this simple fact: "The election is not the most important event of these months. Knowing God as our personal Saviour is. He will always come through for us, regardless of who is elected as an official next month." i've always thought America is indeed a great place to live, and i'm proud of the history of its foundation, that people who were seeking their right to worship God and God only, not an institution, a Church, or a human leader, were the ones who made America what it is; it's the people who don't know God and what He did for us who will forever be unhappy and searching. i have heard so many stories as of late regarding the spiritual journey, how people have just known that they need God. my master's thesis was about my own spiritual journey, in fact. it's amazing to me how simple it is to know God, to know that he sent His only Son to save us from ourselves, and to revel in the joy that He brings. yet there are those who will forever be searching, searching in politics, in money, in social reforms, in equanimity between races, in addictions, in desire and self-indulgence. it is those who are searching who will perish in their own ruin if they don't find God first.
